As some of you know, we held a call for Micro Maestros and Mavens to represent Kidizen for the month of August. It was incredibly hard to choose just one but here he is! Introducing...Everett. We got to know Everett a little better by talking with mom, Megan. We hope you'll spend some time getting to know this spunky and darling little guy too!
First things first, what is Everett like?
Everett is a pistol – full of energy and always on the go! He is the youngest and the most accident prone of my 3 boys. I suppose the latter is because he's always trying to keep up with his older brothers! He is very sweet and very smart. He just turned 2 last month and recognizes all of his ABC’s and can count to 12. Yes, bragging mom moment :). He can melt your heart in a moment with his huge dimpled smile and puppy dog eyes.
What is Everett’s favorite thing to wear? Why?
Everett loves hats (so does Mommy)! He's always putting them on and looking into the mirror, smiling at himself. He seems to already know that they look super cute on him.
What is your favorite hand-me-down from an older sibling? It there any sentimental value to it?
My favorite hand-me-down worn by all of my children is this adorable wool, camel colored hooded jacket. I have no idea where I got it and the only thing written on the tag is: 100% wool. I was very sad when Everett outgrew it...it was donated so I'm hoping now that another child is loving it. I wish I would’ve gotten pictures of each of my boys wearing it!
I love having 3 boys for so many reasons. One being, there's a constant stream of hand-me-downs when it comes to dressing Everett. Each of my boys has his own unique personality, which surfaces in an equally unique look. Their sizes also play a role in the styles they wear. Everett is skinny like his oldest brother where as our middle son is a tank! I tend to dress him in his oldest brother's hand-me-downs. But I couldn't imagine our linebacker of a middle son in skinny jeans and floppy hats. I just can’t!
Describe Everett’s relationship with his brothers. What makes them each unique?
Everett LOVES his big brothers. He tends to be a bit of a troublemaker when they're all together. My middle son Daniel and my youngest Everett are 18 months apart, and I love watching their relationship blossom as Everett gets older. They are "buds". My skinny, tiny Everett will wrestle Daniel with all his might. I have walked into a room to find Everett standing and bouncing on Daniel’s belly! He's lucky that Daniel is a big, laid back teddy bear who adores his little brother. I love seeing the special bond between my boys and look forward to watching it deepen as they grow and evolve.
Boys are tough on clothing! Does this factor into why you buy “pre-loved” over “new”?
Boy’s are definitely hard on clothes. It’s a challenge to find stylish clothes for boys that won’t ultimately cause me to cringe upon spotting that first grass or food stain. I will admit, it's happened and it only takes one wrestling match on the lawn :). Boys will be boys and I would never want to stifle my boys' exploratory (and quite often messy) nature by having them wear clothes that prevent them from being themselves.
I love being able to dress Everett in comfortable, adorable and unique clothing that would’ve been out of my price range if bought new. “New” isn’t usually practical for me. It’s an added bonus if his outgrown pre-loved clothing manages to stay stain-free so I can resell it...a win-win situation for everyone!
What are some tips for keeping Everett’s style unique with hand-me-downs?
I try to keep Everett’s style unique by adding pieces here and there to his already existing brothers' wardrobes. I also take pieces of his unique personality and run with them. Like his love of hats! I'm a shoe freak when it comes to dressing my boys so I'm all for adding a new pair of moccasins or colorful kicks to finish off their outfits. Just because my boys aren’t girls doesn’t mean I can’t dress them SUPER cute!
It looks like Everett wears a lot of Mini Boden which seems to fit his personality. Can you tell us why you like to dress him in that particular brand of clothing?
I have a bit of a addiction when it comes to shopping for clothes for my boy’s, lol. It's just so fun! I love Mini Boden on Everett! He looks adorable in their offbeat style. Discovering that it was a brand that had a high resale return was definitely a bonus! I can buy a $40 shirt new for $15 used and then resell it. It allows me to dress Everett a bit different than the other boys on the playground without breaking the bank.
Are there other brands he sports? Which boys brands are your go-to for quality, style and price?
Everett wears many other brands. While Boden is my go-to brand for great quality clothing, he does inherit his brothers' hand-me-downs of various brands. Gap has these super cute cotton striped shorts that totally resemble the Mini Boden baggies. He has 4 pairs of those that mix and match with a lot of his shirts. Super cute, comfortable and affordable. They are only about $10 whereas the Boden baggies are $28 each new. I purchased 3 new pairs on Ebay for $23. That was a happy day for me! I can put those on him when I know we're headed somewhere where he'll get dirty.
I also love Tea Collection. Their clothes are "globally inspired" and every season represents a different country. They have some really great graphics on their shirts. I buy a lot of pre-owned Tea and they also run really great sales. This is another clothing brand with a high resale value. Do you follow me people??? :) He has clothing from less known brands that I love like Jr. by Minihaha and. Taille O. Next Direct also is a great clothing line for boys with many style options in various price points.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to write about a couple of my favorite things. I got to brag about my beautiful Everett and talk clothes. Publicly! How lucky I am :).
