Hi Katherine! Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
As of March of this year, I am a stay at home mom. Previously, I was a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company. My husband also works in the healthcare industry. I have 2 kids, Madison is 4 going on 15, and Alex is 2. We live in the suburbs of Chicago in Plainfield.
We would love to hear your Kidizen story, how did you get started?
I started with Kidizen pretty recently (I think in August or September). I have always thought that running a kids consignment shop would be fun, but I would never be able to do the hours as my family keeps me very active. I have been selling at consignment shops for a number of years, but always hated the lugging everything in and then picking it up again. Plus the amount that I would get on some items was so low that it made me question if it was worth it. With Kidizen, I started by making my first purchase and then put aside an hour every night to list my kids items. I bought a scale and shipping supplies from Amazon and pretty much got the shop running. I'm sure the mailman hates me with all the packages going out (and coming in from all the wonderful moms).
You have over 800 listings, that is amazing! How do you manage all these items and listings?
As my shop has grown, I really had to get organized. I have everything in a spare bedroom with clothing racks and large plastic bins. I have each bin separated into dresses, pants, tops, pajamas, shoes, jackets, etc.
If given the opportunity to have the day all to yourself, how would you spend it?
It's so rare that this happens, but I love to take a "me" day and go get a massage, shop without kids, workout early (instead of after the kids go to bed).
Describe yourself in 5 words or less.
Motivated, savvy, busy, fun loving, passionate
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
To eat anything and not gain weight, lol. Don't we all wish this?!
The Holiday Season is approaching fast! Do you have any favorite family traditions?
Christmas Eve we have a traditional Polish dinner at my parents house followed by going to church. I love the way the church is decorated for Christmas. Christmas Day, we usually host a breakfast at the house for both my family and my husband's family. We usually have my brother in law dress up as Santa and surprise the kids and then open gifts. In the afternoon, we have a lunch/dinner at my parents.
What do you think is the greatest invention of all time?
That's a tough one. Right now, I don't think I could live without an iPad. It keeps the kids entertained while we have dinner or have to wait anywhere. Plus the educational apps are great. My daughter has really picked up on speaking Polish with the cute games, etc.
Any advice for new sellers out there?
Buy a scale and supplies ASAP, this will make the process so much easier without the hassle of the post office. List a variety of items. List summer clothes even when it's winter (you can save for later or layer clothes).
