Shop Stories: Shop Kaiote

THIS WEEK'S SHOP STORY IS WITH SHOP KAIOTE. MEET MEG AND HER FAMILY!

Meg's story: My husband and I met five years ago through mutual friends while he was stationed in GA, where I'm from, only for him to have to leave a short few weeks later to a new station in CO.

After several months and several visits, we decided I'd move to be with him in CO. We married on the day he deployed five years ago today. After a long year apart while he served in Afghanistan, he came home.

We got to experience the joy of married life, bought a home and spent a few more years in CO. He eventually served his active duty time and we decided to get out of the Army.

We found out I was pregnant while planning the move to Austin, TX where we live now. We had our son 20 months ago and are living the dream with him! He's our best friend and we all do everything together!

I am a stay at home mom, so I love spending extra time selling our no longer needed items online and Kidizen is a great place for that!

Favorite back to school clothes: We love anything that is made organic/sustainable in the USA!

Favorite cause: anything related to saving our endangered species, also protecting all animals and the Earth

Kids brands you like: Kaiote Designs (our brand), Mini and Maximus, Indikidual, Quinn + Fox, Boys and Girls Shop, Little Cocoa Bean, TOMS and so many more! It's hard to name them all.

Life motto: "Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today." - Benjamin Franklin

Funny things your kid has said or done: he's nearly 20 months, so everything he does is funny and amazing to us! Watching him show us his new signs (sign language) is pretty cute!

Best parenting advice received: enjoy every minute!

Advice for newbies on Kidizen: keep organized, stay honest, and use an easy online shipping tool like shippingeasy.com or PayPal shipping! You can just print and throw them in your mailbox. No postal runs necessary.

Any special promotions: SURE, 15% off 2 or more items from our shop!

Shop Stories: Birdie & Bubble

THIS WEEK'S SHOP STORY IS WITH BIRDIE & BUBBLE. MEET KRISTEN AND HER FAMILY!

Your brief story: My name is Kristen of Birdie & Bubble, and I am mommy to Avery (the Birdie), age 7, and Ezra (the Bubble), age 1.  They are beautiful and wild and curious and busy, but most of all, they are joy incarnate.  I saved all of Avery’s clothes because I was sure I would have another girl someday.  You know what they say about where the best laid plans lead you……and almost 6 years later, our little guy was born and we had BINS and BINS of girl clothes waiting to be used!

I heard good things about Kidizen recently and decided to give it a try to pass along these great clothes, and I became instantly hooked!  I love that you can also sell cloth diapers, because that is a big part of our lives right now with Ezra.

Favorite back to school clothes, and favorite cause: I’m excited to start looking for back-to-school clothes for my daughter!  This year I am obsessed with mixing ivory and army green--like lace skirts with military jackets, exaggerated cowl-neck dresses and sweatshirts, thick, chunky cardigans, and ALWAYS black and white striped everything.

Of course, she is also going to need a pair of tall black boots and we’ll probably throw in a pair of short metallic boots for a little flair!

As far as the little guy's style is concerned, it kind of revolves around the fact that he is cloth diapered.  We started using cloth on Ezra when he was born for environmental and financial reasons, and it was shocking to find out it is as addictive as fashion (there goes the financial benefit, haha).

There are so many amazing, modern types of diapers available nowadays that are just so cool--I think most people would be shocked to see how fun cloth diapering has become.  We also use Sloomb wool as covers for his diapers, and the wool is a big part of his style at this point.  I could talk about wool and cloth diapering for hours straight!

Kids brands you like:  We love Zara, Crewcuts, Olive Juice, Sloomb wool, Peek, Mini Boden, Gap, and Tea Collection for both of the kids.  They both wear checkerboard Vans and black Chucks just like their Daddy (amongst many other shoes, haha).

Favorite score on Kidizen:  I just found an amazing pair of limited edition Adidas with Gonzo on them for a great price!  I will hoard them for the little guy for a few years—they were too good to pass up!

Imaginary Fashion Coalition (real or imaginary, dead or alive, people that you'd take shopping with you):  My fashion coalition would consist of my mom and sisters, mostly because we just have fun!  The fashion just falls into place naturally after the fun.

Life motto:  “I think you should buy it.”  Not the most fiscally responsible motto to have, but hey….#truth.  I bought the KonMari book.  I’m working on it.

Funny things your kid(s) have said or done:  The other day, I said to Avery, “I love you.  You have a beautiful heart.” She looked a little suspicious and replied, “Really?  Cuz hearts look like meat not cut up like a ham.”

Best parenting advice received:  Dr. Google is not a real doctor.  Stop worrying so much!

Advice for newbies on Kidizen:  Get involved on the Hello Kidizen Facebook page and make friends!  They can help your shop get noticed and maybe they’ll buy your amazing wares.

Any special promotions:  Buy more and save more!  I’ll try to always have a bundling promotion going, and if you want to buy a whole lot of items, let me know and I can work out a special price for you.

Shop Stories: The Bear and the Bow

THIS WEEK'S SHOP STORY IS WITH The Bear and the Bow. MEET Alyssa AND HER FAMILY!

Alyssa's story: My name is Alyssa, and I'm a born and raised Midwestern girl living in New England. I say "Pop," not Soda, but will also say "lob-stah" non-ironically. I enjoy reality television, boxed wine, trips to Target just to "get out of the house," and the overuse of emojis.

I have two kids I love and tolerate - Blair is three and a half and Wells is 14 months. I stay at home with them, and love that Kidizen has given me a little "part time job" in selling (and buying - mostly buying) their gently loved clothes!

Kids brands you like: We love classic and comfy brands such as Boden, Crewcuts, H&M, Tea, Saltwaters, and Gap. Through Kidizen, I've also fallen in love with Mini Melissa, Peek, Zara, and Well Dressed Wolf. What's Well Dressed Wolf? I'm not going to tell you because I don't want any more cart competition.

Favorite score on Kidizen: Definitely this Tucker + Tate cape from the lovely Emily at Juliet & James. It was one of my early Kidizen purchases, and it's something both Blair and I love.

I'm adding a question here and also mentioning the best thing I sold on Kidizen: that would be "my husband" on April Fool's Day! And wouldn't you know, the hilarious TJ at From Luella With Love bought him. Of course, USPS lost him in the mail. I tried.

Imaginary Fashion Coalition: First is my mom. She is a shopping queen and one time spent an entire DAY (literally 9-5), at TJ Maxx. The employees know her by name.

Second would be Kate Middleton. She would tell me in her British accent that things either "look smashing" or "look like rubbish " and then I would just stare jealously at her hair.

Life motto: "Life is Beautiful....holla!"

Funny things your kid(s) have said or done: Oh boy. Actually not really the boy because he doesn't talk yet. But my girl is something else...

"When I grow up I'm going to drink wine and eat spicy food."

Her "name of the stage" (stage name) is Barneena. I don't even know.

I've expertly trained her to reply, "MUST BE THE MONEY!" when asked, "Why must I feel this way?"

Best parenting advice received: Everything is a stage. Your kid will eventually sleep through the night, at some point stop pooping while hiding in the corner, and one day stop calling you "Mama" and start saying "Mom." Sob.

Advice for newbies on Kidizen: Take well lit pictures. Run a discount. Be active on the app. Be active on the Hello Kidizen Facebook page.  Run a REALLY good discount at milestones to get noticed. Ship quickly. Include diamonds.

Special promotions: I always have at least 15% off 2 or more in my shop! But get a few "adult beverages" in me and get some friendly shop promo competition going (cough cough Alice & Finn), and you never know what you might get!

Favorite back to school clothes: Blair is starting preschool this year, and I'm so excited to do some real back to school shopping!

We're going to try out our first pair of Livie and Luca shoes, and some Matilda Jane pieces. Of course Boden will come into play, as well as tons of leggings from Old Navy (the patterns are awesome!)

With all of this, I will also be buying a bulk pack of OxyClean.

Favorite cause:  Before kids, I was a teacher (and a little bit more sane). Every year come August, I would find myself spending money at Target, Staples, and Oriental Trading to make my classroom that much better.

So my favorite cause is supporting teachers who are supporting your kids who will one day support you (whoa, full circle). I love donorschose.com where you can support teachers' specific projects, ideas, and needs.

Shop Stories: KK&H

This week's Shop story is with KK&H. Meet Kelsey and her family!

Kelsey's story: Hi, I'm Kelsey from Northern California. I'm a full time mommy during the day and a KAIA FIT coach and TRX trainer in the evenings. I love love love clothes, especially for my littles!

My shop is KK&H named after my three littles Kayleigh, Kenzie (or red as we call her), and my little guy Holden.

Brands we like: I have always been a sucker for Gap, H&M, and Old Navy over the years for my girls and we always find cute little things at Target, where I love to spend any free time.

When I got pregnant and we found out it was a boy I was scared. I don't know anything about boys, I'm so girly and just didn't know what to put him in. Now I love dressing him! I love Gap for him and H&M but a lot of his stuff is from small independent shops.

Love Kindred Oak, Made by Molly, Kid and Kind, Loved by Hannah and Eli, Little Adi co and so many more. He has even changed the way I dress my girls, I buy a lot more hipster pieces now for them.

Favorite score on Kidizen: My favorite score on Kidizen was a little fox outfit. I had looked for months on eBay and one day there it was on the Kidizen feed! I'm gonna have a hard time letting it go!

Imaginary fashion coalition: I'd like to go shopping with Kourtney Kardashian. I love the way she dresses her little ones plus she just seems fun.

Life motto: I think this quote pretty much sums it up.

Funny things my kids have said or done: Gosh they crack me up everyday. My oldest one is 6 going on 16 and she probably makes me laugh the most.

She's obsessed with clothes like me and now justifies why I need to buy her things, "Mom, wouldn't this look really cute with those polka dot shorts?" She's such a mini me!

Best parenting advice: I'm a very scheduled person that likes routine but I'm learning to go with my kids flow and let some things go.

Favorite travel destination: Disneyland! We go every year and I wait all year for it. We dress the kids up in themed outfits everyday we are there and I just love it. It truly is the happiest place on earth for our bunch.

Favorite kid friendly activities: We love the zoo, the local splash pad, swimming at mama's and our mall has great play areas my kids love.

Advice for newbies on Kidizen: I think it's important to get involved. Post pictures in the galleries, comment and share things in the Facebook group and comment on others' shop listings.

You'll find most of the moms on Kidizen are just super nice people.

Minne Me. Minne You. Minne Love.

You shared your pics of you and your Minnes sporting your favorite Minnetonka mocs, and oh! we loved them all!  If awesome kicks could inspire such style, we thought we should get to know the mom+me mates behind them.

Please meet our five prize-winning mamas with moc-rockin' kids. We collected their thoughts on style, memories, motherhood. We hope you'll read their love notes and share your own! And don't forget to check out all of the amazing entries on the Minnetonka Community Page in the Kidizen app.

What do you love about your Minne-Me?

This little girl makes me a better person. She has taught me so many things, the most important being patience.

Why do you love your Minnetonkas?

Because they are so easy! We are not to big on accessories but these shoes, boots, and moccasins complete our look effortlessly. My first pair of Minnetonkas were the slipper moccasins and Kayla's were the short single fringe booties. We wore them with Matilda Jane, another brand we love! Her boots always got compliments.

How would you describe Kayla's style? What style legacy do you hope to pass on to your kids?

Kayla is definitely a jeans and t-shirt girl, but she has moments when she wants to show some spunk and sass. I think that I've learned more from her style then she has from me -- she is more of a risk taker than I am. She has taught me to love what you love and to wear what makes you happy!

She has taught me more than I have yet to teach her.

What do you love about your Minne-Mes?

I have three little ones. My twin girls are 2.5 years old and born on different days -- they are an hour apart straddling midnight!. My little man is 18 months. I get to stay home with them full time which means I get everything: the good, the bad and the ugly. But honestly, life with three under three is way more fun than I ever expected. My house is loud. Like, really loud. And I never want that to change. Ever.

Why do you love your Minnetonkas?

We love our moccs because they seriously go with EVERYTHING. Here in Florida, we get to wear them year round. My kids wear the moccs that have velcro in the back and one fringe, paired with cords, a sweater and scarf for the winter, a flowy dress for the spring, and a button-down shirt and shorts for the summer, and skinny jeans and a floral top for Fall. How many shoes can be so versatile? They are comfortable and easy for my kids to put on by themselves -- which is huge when you have three to dress every morning!

How would you describe your kids' styles? What style legacy do you hope to pass on to your kids?

I try to dress my children in classic styles -- a little trendy but mostly classic. Looking back at pictures of myself, the trendy outfits are always, ALWAYS the ones I regret. I hope my children learn they don’t have to dress crazy to make a statement: sometimes, it’s the simple things that really stick.

What do you love about your Minne-Me?

While I could go on and on about the endless reasons why I am my minne-mes’ biggest fan, the one thing that stands out is how much I actually learn from them. Hunter and Stella are so fearless and trusting. They are caring and love without reason. They want to make others laugh and love to be goofy at all of the right times. The bond we have is unbreakable and irreplaceable.

Why do you love your Minnetonkas?

I got my first pair of Minnetonka's from my grandmother when I was in elementary school. I still remember the smell when I opened the box! Sort of silly, but such a great memory. And when I got my daughter her pair first pair, I noticed they still had the exact same smell! The reasons we love our Minnetonka's are nearly endless, too! They are high-quality, and also SO fashionable, comfortable, and versatile -- how can you go wrong? Did I also mention fashionable?

How would you describe your kids' styles? What style legacy do you hope to pass on to your kids?

My kids style's are trendy yet kid-proof! My girls love fringes, ruffles, bows, and everything in between, but I appreciate colors and fabric that won't get ruined if we have a random sand castle building contest. Dressing my son like a little man is always a must, but comfort and quality take the prize for him, too.

Growing up in Austin, TX, I was always "taught" to primp before heading out the door. As a mother, I realize it's not always possible and that is quite alright, but a little effort can definitely go a long way. I hope my kids are always comfortable with how they are inside and out.

What do you love about your Minne-Me?

What I love about my youngest mini me in the picture is that he's my boy! We have two beautiful girls and really hoped for a boy and we're thrilled. He's our last baby so he's incredibly spoiled by everyone, sisters included!

Why do you love your Minnetonkas?

They are cute, comfy, and hold up well. I got my first pair in high school and loved how comfy they were. I've bought about 4 other pairs since, but I still have my original ones. They last forever! In my family, we wear them through all the seasons. I love how most styles are gender neutral -- ow my son has a pair in almost every size waiting for him.

How would you describe Holden's style? What style legacy do you hope to pass on to your kids?

When I found out I was pregnant with a boy I was worried -- I'm very girly and so are my girls so I had no clue what to put him in! Now I dress him in all different styles -- preppy with a little hipster or bohemian thrown in. It amazes me how much I love dressing my boy, it is just as fun as dressing my girls.

What do you love about your Minne-Me?

I love every little thing! She is now saying “I love you” and I swear I could just melt when she does. She is super attached to me, and is even mimicking things that I do now. I hope that we can carry this special bond for the rest of time!

Why do you love your Minnetonkas?

I have been wearing Minnetonka for YEARS -- since high school! Then I had a pair of classic moccasins. Now I love that my daughter and I can match! Mocs are super comfortable, and I love that they come in many styles and colors.

How would you describe Olivia's style? What style legacy do you hope to pass on to her?

Right now it's great because Olivia is still allowing me to dress her, so she has a laid-back bohemian style. I hope to encourage my children to dress how they feel and never worry about what is in style. I want them to feel comfortable in their own skin first.

Real Shop Stories: Stella & James Finds

Chapter 1:

Meet Jen, Stella And James

Hi I am Jen Snyder, Shop Keeper and Mama Stylist of Stella + James Finds up here in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.  I am a woman that wears a lot of hats at my house. I am a stay at home mom, but also a professional photographer, painter, Barre instructor and wardrobe stylist. One thing I have always loved is both art and fashion.  I try creating unique and eye catching outfits for myself + kids that blend these two favorites together and make it super fun to get everyone ready each day.

It is amazing how much kid’s fashion has changed even in the past few years.  There are so many great options now for finding unique clothing that is handmade from emerging local and global designers, and getting awesome deals on second hand high-end pieces for a fraction of the cost.

Six years ago when I had my oldest, James, you really had to dig to find cooler, more unique boy stuff.  I remember searching eBay a lot at that time just to get something different.  I was thrilled one day when I won an auction for a 12-month Kenneth Cole gray velvet blazer for only $6.  For James, my favorite mainstream brands are Zara Kids, H&M,  Crewcuts and a few trendier pieces from Gap Kids, but I also like tees and pieces from Mini & Maximus, Quinn + Fox and some independent designers.

When Stella was added to our family almost 3 years ago, I was very excited to get to shop for a girl and was almost overwhelmed with all the choices out there. I began to realize I liked so many brands that I couldn’t budget for at retail cost or my husband would not let me shop anymore!!  That is when I started shopping almost all online resale or local mom sales. The deals and value I got for the items I found was amazing  and it made it hard to go shop at a mall anymore.

I still buy a few pieces retail from Zara and Crewcuts for Stella as well and even splurge every now and then on my favorites like Wovenplay, Tutu Du Monde, and Anthropologie Kids Brands.  I am starting to add more indie and global styles into her wardrobe and love looks by emerging designers from The Brass Razoo, Liboosha, Duchess & Lion, and The Striped Fig as well as vintage whimsical brands like The Measure and Joyfolie.

Chapter 2:

Styling Our Shop Photos

I loved adding my shop to Kidizen. Not only was it a way to replenish my Paypal Account for more cute items, but also share pieces my two kids loved with other moms and kids.  I get to show our style and let others enjoy it too.

I recently started adding styled sets to my shop. I take the item I want to sell and find accessories, shoes or coordinating found objects to give each piece more uniqueness and character.  It gives my viewer a chance to see an outfit idea or gives a connection. An old book, camera or knitted animal can add more than you think to your item.  The idea was inspired by the beautiful online website Flora + Henri.  They have fantastic upscale clothing for kids, but pair each piece with special items and makes you feel like you are getting more than just a dress or shirt when you look at the styled photos.  It is easy to do your own styled photos and only take a few extra minutes versus just shooting your item alone.

To set up for multiple listings, I grabbed a small pile of coordinating kids shoes, jewelry, accessories and then fun objects I had in my house.  I used my reclaimed wood dining table as my backdrop since it was simple but interesting and my iPhone.  I shot my photos during the day since natural light will always make your phone photos look best. I assembled different combos and snapped one full shot and one detail shot of each item.

Chapter 3:

selling in three simple steps

Listing your items takes about 2 minutes on your iPhone. You simply add your photo, add other criteria such as brand, gender, size and condition and name your price. You include shipping in the price and the app tells you how much you make (Kidizen takes 7%, Paypal 2.9% + .30). The moment you hit "post", it shows up in the Feed and in your Shop. You manage your listings, discounts and settings right from your shop. If you don't have the free app yet, you can download it here.

After you've been notified that you made a sale, you're ready for step two. There's no ONE way to do this so you'll have to play around with what works for you.  I think you'll find that once you designate a special place and have a system, it's pretty simple. And FUN! Here's how I've chosen to put my packages together.

I use: a scale (kitchen scales work great!), ribbon, tissue, thank you cards, poly bags, and scissors & tape for the mailing label. While I enjoying adding my own special touches to package, the essentials are the scale, bags and tape.

The last step is to print your shipping label from Paypal (or create your own) and you're ready to send it off.

Come visit my shop in Kidizen- Stella + James Finds.  I will be adding our pre-loved items frequently since my kids seem to grow very quickly (they seem to take after my 6’8 husband).

Meet OUR Kids...

Here at Kidizen, we've asked ourselves, "what message will inspire us as a community in 2015?". You may have realized by now that we're not the "out with the old, in with the new" type, more of the "old is IN" type. And by "old" we mean: super stylish, pre-loved hand-me-downs that deserve to be out climbing trees, riding bikes, visiting grandmaw, learning addition, going on playdates, dressing up for the holidays and all the other fun stuff that kids do!

In looking back on our last year together, we realized that what makes our community so special is SHARING. You've shared your outgrown kidstuff, your tips, your scores, your kid looks and more. We love it! Thank you for sharing the things you love. We can't wait to see what 2015 brings!

We invite you to start out the year by sharing pics of the ones you love...your kids. Share for share? It's only fair that we share too so we'll start! You've probably seen their pics scattered here and there but here's a formal introduction to some of the real kids of Kidizen – the ones that inspire us every day to make the world a better, kinder and more interesting place – our own.

MEET DUG'S GIRLS:

(For those of you who haven't met Dug, he's our Chief Executive Kid and ultra-cool dad of 2. )

NICHOLS-kids.png

Daisy
If it has superheroes, dragons, or post-apocalyptic damsels who are definitely NOT in distress, it's rocking Daisy's world these days. Her usual wardrobe reflects this: why not wear a My Little Pony shirt with leopard leggings and a military-inspired jacket and sparkly shoes and, and, and? You never know when you'll have a world to save; you have to dress the part at all times.

Molly
Like many tweens, right now Molly aspires mainly to be a teenager, with attitude to spare--but she can still let her hair down for elaborate doll-playing scenarios or impromptu lip-dub video shoots complete with giggles and shrieks. Her style is impeccable with little room for error: it's got to fit in with the rest of the middle school set, while still leaving room for her individuality to shine through. The key to that? Accessories!

Meet Mary's Kids:

FALLON-kids.png

Frances (a.k.a Frankie)
Everything in Frankie's world has a soul and a voice: her dolls, chess pieces, sand grains, and she listens and ensures they're duly represented. She uses a walkie-talkie to make jocular demands for things she knows she won't get, and she hugs her friends right off their feet. The disparate articles of clothing she wears "go together" maybe 28% of the time but she looks 100% correct. All the time.

Murphy
Murphy loves his home, his family & friends(the dudes), and wolves. He sees pictures and shapes other people don't discern but then seem obvious, and the boy can rock a hat and vest better than any 20-something urban male. He has yet to shun a pair of brightly colored pants, shoes or anything that draws attention to his ongoing comedy routine.

Meet Dori's Son:

Quintus
This is a rare occasion in which we got Quintus into something other than jeans and a t-shirt. Even more rare is the fact that his shirt is buttoned correctly, because 90% of the time it's a buttonhole or two off (I think he does this intentionally). But there's no point in suggesting he correct it, because he will remain adamant that it's buttoned correctly.
